SPONSOR A CHILD

Missions

Our Missions

We believe every child deserves to live with easy access to education, good healthcare and a dignified life. Our mission is to reach out to the poorest of the poor children in underprivileged communities with education, nourishment, healthcare and holistic support. We aim to uplift and transform the communities and villages where the children live in, thus sowing seeds for the well-being of generations to come.

Our international aid project is currently being carried out in the Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu, India. Kanchipuram with its booming silk industry and Thiruvallur with its floriculture and flower farming have sadly given rise to very high rates of child labour in these areas.

Although child labour is illegal in India, it is not enforced or practised with diligence in a major part of the country. Until 2016, the 1986 Child Labour Act allowed children under the age of 14 to be employed in “non-hazardous” work. This meant it was still legal to employ children and no minimum wage requirement was put in place. Children as young as 5 years old work 12 or more hours a day in poor conditions. The 2016 Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) amendment act now prohibits the employment of children under 14 in any work setting. However, adolescents aged between 14 and 18 are still allowed to be employed in non-hazardous conditions. It is clear there any many loop holes that factories and companies use to their advantage to exploit the vulnerability of children to run their businesses.

TCP is working round the clock and continues to reach out to children from the streets and factories to put them back into schools. We aim to restore the livelihoods of these children who deserve a better now and a better future.

Sponsor A Child

The Common People Child Sponsorship Programme addresses the needs of the individual child, the family and the community they live in. 100% of your donations are invested directly into the education, health, nutritional needs of the child as well as transformation of the immediate community surrounding your special child. This ensures the generous support you provide them now paves the way for their sustainable and secure future, and in turn nurtures them into responsible adults with a profession or vocational skill. Here’s how you can get involved:

STEP 1:

SPONSOR A CHILD!

With just over 75c/day (AUD 23/month), you can change a child’s life for the better. The duration of sponsorship is up to your discretion, and you will be regularly updated about the child throughout your sponsorship duration. Our low monthly expenses are attributed to the selfless time and effort of our volunteers and good willed individuals running The Common People organisation.

You are welcome to provide higher donations corresponding with your abilities and generosity as every penny is invested into the children’s lives and the need is ever-increasing. We also have well-wishers who provide contributions as weekly or monthly tithes or as one-off donations.

STEP 2:

CREATE A LIFETIME BOND WITH YOUR CHILD

As a sponsor, you will be able to maintain regular written correspondence with your sponsored child. We encourage you to engage in correspondence with your child in the form of letters which our ground staff can coordinate. We have seen the personal touch of sponsoring families going a long way in shaping their bright future.

Once the child is grown up and has spread wings to become a fully resourced independent member of society without the aid of TCP sponsorship support, you may still choose to stay in touch with them in your own accord.

STEP 3:

VISIT THE COMMON PEOPLE PROJECT SITE

You are encouraged to visit our project site in your own time. Spending time with your child and family will enrich your sponsorship experience. Our team on the ground will facilitate your visit. Additional details will be provided in your welcome pack which you will receive once you become a child sponsor.
